Come and explore the work-songs of the golden age of sail. Open to both musicians and non-musicians of all ages and abilities, these session are led by Pete Truin.
Since their heyday between 1815 and 1870, shanties have remained a popular form of song for both sailors and landsmen alike. During this workshop we will focus on a repertoire of shanties that were used for different jobs onboard ship, exploring more authentic styles of singing as well as some contemporary arrangements of shanties.
No previous musical training is necessary!
At the end of the session at 22:00 everyone’s invited to go upstairs in the pub for a big singing session!
This is a free workshop but we’ll be collect optional voluntary donations after the class to help fund future courses.
